The Impact of Viewability

An ad is considered viewable if at least 50% of its pixels are in-view (on-screen) for at least 1 second. The longer an ad is in-view, the more value it provides advertisers as it is more likely to be remembered or clicked. Thus, buyers typically pay more for slots with higher viewability rates.

How is it Defined?

  • Pixel Requirement: Greater than or equal to 50% of the pixels in the advertisement were on an in-focus browser tab on the viewable space of the browser page, and
  • Time Requirement: The time the pixel requirement is met was greater than or equal to one continuous second, post ad render.
